COMING HOME

Tang Poem 300: # 261

COMING HOME
By Tang Poet He Zhizhang
Translated by Laijon Liu

Since young I leave home,
And now I return
With an age of old.

My accent is not yet changed,
But my hairs
Are turned gray.

My young grandchildren come
And greet me,
But they don’t know who I am.

With their bright smile they ask:
Hi, my guest.
Where are you from?

Chinese:
回鄉偶書
賀知章

少小離家老大回,
鄉音無改鬢毛衰;
兒童相見不相識,
笑問客從何處來。
