Heaven Clean Sand (Autumn)

Heaven Clean Sand (Autumn)
Poet Bai Pu 1226-1306 (Yuan Dynasty)

Lonesome village, setting sun, scarce rosy clouds,
Light rising smokes, old trees, and jackdaws.
A tiny shadow of flying swan,
Green mountains and blue water,
Pallid grass, red leaves, and yellow flowers.

Note:
Many Chinese ancient poets are painters, writers, musicians, and dramatists….
Mr. Bai Pu was one of them lived the era of Yuan dynasty. This poem was also a song, that the poet composed these characters in a rhythm of song, put them in an order of painting, and gave a listener a melody, a picture, and an eternal beautiful and sad place to dwell. Too bad, he did not write travel essay:-) I could not make the English translate sounds in rhythm, but still the picture strikes a soul that the autumn arrives, thru a painting of words to echo one’s feeling.

Three Tang Love Songs

Bamboo Branch Style Ci Poem
Tang Poet Liu Yuxi
Translated by Laijon Liu

The peach flower over that hill they bloom.
The spring river circles the hill she flows.
The redness of the flower fades as your love,
Only the water flows endlessly as my sorrow.

Bamboo Branch Style Ci Poem
Tang Poet Liu Yuxi
Translated by Laijon Liu

The willows are green and the river quietly flows,
I hear your love song crosses the river sung.
Sun rises from east to meet the rain of west,
Please tell me it’s rainy or bright?

Wave Washes Sand Style Ci Poem
Tang Poet Bai Juyi
Translated by Laijon Liu

See, the river, the lake, and the water of sea,
How shall I compare your love to my heart?
I hate to see that the tide keeps its promise,
But lovesickness aches deeper than the sea.

I Never Saw a Moor
Emily Dickinson

I never saw a moor,
I never saw the sea-
Yet know I how the heather looks,
And what a wave must be.

I never spoke with God,
Nor visited in heaven-
Yet certain am I of the spot
As if the chart were given-
