The Lions

The Lions
Laijon Liu 20181225

There can be no covenants
between lions and men!”      - Homer

Lions!

Lions do not abide ten commandments!
Lions dwell in Nature, feast
with their absolute strength and liberty!

dawn trembles at their long deep roars
the fragile heart of night is trampled
under their giant paws

nomadic pride marks the border
of their free will
residential rulers happy to prey
on the meek and lowly

idle away their daylight, bask in sun
and take down the world at one fell swoop!

Lions constitute their nations
Lions pursue and possess their happiness
Lions move and cull their herds
Lions hunt men and sheep

Lions know what is fear
Lions can also feel pain
so Lions exert all that-
with their righteous wrath!
so they can live like Lions
as Lions do!

To A President by Walt Whitman

To A President by Walt Whitman

Isn't he a prophet, an awesome poet?

of course, the poem directly called to James Buchanan (Southern camp from pro-slavery states), and the poem still works today, because politicians' usual trick is peddling an illusion, some false pride some sort that planted in our hearts, the mirages, like the exile followers demanding Moses anoint a king for themselves, so God gave them a king because people wanted. and today, the impartiality, rectitude, the great amplitude still the deep rooted problem of the US, if the sum of 1860 slaves and all the anti-slave population compares to the total low income household heads of today, we probably get the same percentage. and we see and hear all those politicians keep selling their lies, yet all they do is seeking, serving and fighting for the interests of the slave owners who can replace any politicians at their freewill with the power of their endorsements. technologies and fashions do change, but the principal and structure of distribution shift its forms like Proteus, the substance is the same. I guess Walt Whitman saw that.
